couple of years ago, the REC Committee targeted several goals for the Backshore

Beach and Salt Pond area. There was an effort, with success, of creating a

family-friendly area. You might know there is now a volleyball and bocce

courts, a horseshoe pit, picnic tables and B-B-Q’s in the family-friendly area

located off to the left side the Salt Pond. The initial thought was for people

to bring their own equipment to utilize the volleyball & bocce courts and

horseshoe pit, but we do also have equipment for people to check out at the

Town Office.

In the family-friendly area wish list, the REC Committee would ultimately like to

have a small playground. We’ve run into a few obstacles with this item, mainly

due to insurance liabilities, playground equipment requirements and prices.

Another idea was the Dog Park. There is an area located off to the side of the

volleyball court which has been the target location in our discussions. I

checked briefly on pricing for fencing which can be expensive depending upon the

size of the park and the quality of fencing but the REC Committee hasn’t taken

this on as an actual project, therefore, there has been no real investigated

work put into it at this point.

I can email the REC Committee and ask them about putting efforts into this

project. I can also ask Jimmy (who is also aware of the idea) if it would

definitely be okay to target this area or any other area that we can think of.

The area the REC Committee has targeted is left of the volleyball court. If you

get a chance to swing down there and take a look, let me know what you think?).

Scotty and I have taken our dog, Olive, to the Belfast Dog Park and we think it’s

a great facility, simple and enjoyable. We think a Dog Park would be a big

benefit for Castine and definitely could be an attraction for Castine to be

perceived as a dog-friendly community.

The idea here is that force ranking ideas for new projects could be a great way to gather public information.

Traditional surveys force folks to make solid line answers to questions that they may have only sort of thought about. Treating solutions to a question as a "this v that" format gives a framework for respondents to couch their answer. If you get enough data points, the results can be striking in terms of which answers are to a given question are more approriate.

The goals for this todo would be to create a topic page for a new project and build a skeleton that's as easy to deploy as 0bin (pyz format)
