- Note taken on Had my second post-surgery appointment
with Dr. Rainier. He gave me a two-two-two week schedule for getting to
boot-less walking on full weight. It involves spending another two weeks off
it, two weeks with half-weight and the boot, and then two weeks of boot-less
full weight with an ankle brace. Talking it through with Emma, while I
wondered about a miracle of full weight walking after this appointment, I'm
actually feeling much less anxious about the six-weeks to walking plan. It
seems more doable than just cold turkey trying to walk again.
Rainier also pointed out that throughout all of this, and probably for months
or even years after, I will be more at risk for spraining my ankle or doing
other damage. In the near term, it's going to be due to muscular weakness
around the ligaments, and was a good reminder of how much work I'm going to
have to do.
On the plus side, Rainier also expressed very little concern over me
rebuilding that muscle and getting back to full strength. So at this point the
concern is probably finding the happy medium of confidence and strengh
re-building, without doing too much.
