Today
- The day has been overcast and gray all day. I spent a chunk of the morning not
being able to get warm. This tends to happen when I go straight to the
basement for work, and I really should learn.
- Emma Sweet out grocery shopping while the kids watched Jumanji 2 again. When I
was done with my block of meetings I came up stairs and got very little done
until Emma got home just before lunch.
- I spent most of the day feeling a little slow and unproductive. I'm hoping to
be able catch up on my two work tasks after the kids go to bed, but we'll see.
- Silas Sewell has been driving me nuts today. We played Coup last night and now
all he can talk about is playing it again. Seems like everytime I walk in the
room he's asking about it, and I don't know how to respond. I usually promise
to play later, but that's not always a good look.
Starting the day with meetings
- I'm not sure I like starting my day with Meetings. Mondays I generally hop
from meeting to meeting to meeting, and I end up feeling really unproductive
all day.
- Maybe what I need to do is get up earlier? I've tried that before and it's not
always easy.
Wrote to Susan Collins today
- Reflecting on the stimulus package for Covid-19 in Congress right now and I
can't believe Susan Collins had the balls to call out the Democrats for
obstructing the bill.
- The reality is that the bill gave huge bailouts to corporations that were
already in dire straights before all this happened. It also would cap payouts
to people who make a certain amount of money, stopping around $100K, or so the
NYT has me believe.
Hungarian politics
- Via HN, [[https://hungarianspectrum.org/2020/03/21/kim-lane-scheppele-orbans-emergency/][Hungary's Orban is consolidating power]] and the author made a really
compelling case that what Orbán is doing is a play for authoritarian power.
- I realized that Zoltan might have some perspective on this and posted the link
to him.

- I felt sort of humbled by this, given that we have Donald Trump for a
president, and the world still hasn't gone to hell. Most people with power
tend to lean towards authoritarianism. This is nothing new.
