Moved from mu4e to notmuch for email in Emacs this morning. The whole thing was a bit of a mistake in terms of when to do it, but the results are delightful. I followed this post:

I think the best part of this solution is that the actual email tagging and searching tool is not IN emacs per-se. That means you can write scripts and manipulate things outside of the tool itself.
Also, mu4e had some serious issues with what version of Emacs and it had to be compiled directly in, which mean custom building emacs on certain platforms. No bueno.
