Journal
Yesterday went pretty well. Hard to know how the interview went for real, but I
am not totally convinced PathAI will make me an offer. The first interview with
Robbie was downright fun, but the second two were more challenging. The second
intervier (who's name escapes me) asked me about data structures related to
PathAI images and API design, and I kinda rolled out a bad solution there, and
then he whiteboarded a question about finding runs of consecutive integers. I
couldn't solve it. Of course, by last night I figured out how to do it in O(N),
but now it's too late.
The third interview with Aditya was interesting. It was a PR review, which I
like the idea of, but I sort of expected it to be a haystack hunt. In reality,
the entire PR was a mess, with some crazy data design ... I wouldn't necessarily
be looking for major data structure redesign in a PR. I'd be looking for logical
errors, or code style problems. So I missed some really big design issues
because I wasn't looking for them.
If anything, the fact that Aditya at some point actually wrote that code should
make me feel like I'm not an idiot. But I also didn't find the issues on the
first pass, Adit had to sort of lead me to them, which was unfortunate.
So we'll see. Either way, I have a final interview with Thorn today, which feels
like they want to move towards an offer. I still think that barring a miracle of
super competitive offering from PathAI, I'd stick with Thorn for my next gig.
