Journal
A cool and damp Labor Day greeted us this morning. I was awake pretty close to 6
but stayed in bed for a while. Still had a historical tour this morning despite
the day off. I had a really nice group who were more than happy to ask questions
and genuinely seemed to have a good time.
---
I was able to get a really good job done on the animals today, moving the egg
bird fence and the sheep. The meat bird tractor has full water and food. I even
got our gutter fixed, where it was sagging from the wood rotting around the nails.
When I got back from the history tour of town, Emma and Jess were debating with
Gabe whether Jess was going to the fair.
---
I just got back from dropping Kember off at Ashley's. Emma got a text from
Heather while we were at the fair today. She's not getting along with Ashley and
he's asked her to move out. I don't know what Heather's going to do. She working
in Bucksport because she could walk there and didn't need a car. Kember's really
excited about school in Bucksport, though it's hard to know how much is a coping mechanism.
There was an interesting article on hacker news the other day talking about the
fact that we should create more things. We spend a lot of our time consuming,
whether it's reading, listening, watching. The thought is that we should spend
more time with creative arts like writing, drawing, singing, editing. The
struggle I have is that if you don't give enough time for creation, what you
create has low value.
That's not to say that there's a value scale based on time spent doing
something. One can spend a lot of time doing something and not increase the
value. But when I dash off a blog post, the value is usually pretty low. But is
it possible that just getting something down is better than nothing? That the
habit of getting a little bit written can increase the value of what is written.
Is the same true for drawing? I want to learn to draw, but I so rarely have the
time to sit and focus on that habit.
