#+begin_verse :title Scroll to the End

Did you feel you were tricked

by the threads that you flipped?

You're probably not wrong, but

consider the obverse:

Did you learn anything new

that you didn't know you knew

from your friends or foes

fighting for the fruit of knowledge?

You can't de-platform humanity

and doom is the right word

when animal instincts rend

our attention span to threads.

The fabric is torn but still warm

with belief that we can learn to mend it

skills blended between grandmothers

and strangers on the web,

our web, spun through electrons,

ingenuity, intelligence and

our worst vices, all of us thinking

what's the best we can do.

Co-workers and cultures shared

across a distance vast enough

to make conquistador's blush

as we crush culture and re-invent kings

Dealmakers, instagramers youtubers,

beatmakers, positive psychology pushers,

anniversary artwork crafters, connected

by a vast and incomprehensible fabric.

Wires and silicon moving us, rick-rolling us

boosting us, transforming us,

into something our ancestors

could hardly recognize,

And yet, do we think they didn't?

Doom scrolling seed catalogs,

Gossiping on front porches

making people feel worse.

Our worst vices have been

with us across all the oceans

of water and wire and the

Silly he said-she-saids are eternal.

We are all works in progress

and this web is new but unoriginal

built from the best and the worst of us

Google is not wrong, or right.

This is us, being and becoming

the best of ourselves with each

spin around the sun, ripe

with potential for the human race.

Put down your phone and consider

The stately elm, oak and ash.

We are nature, nature is not other.

Now pick it up and make art;

You are still human.
