Got kind of tangled up in FreeBSD again this weekend. Aside from that, it was a

strange weekend with a lot of timesinks.

Asa woke up with croupe this morning, and it sounded much worse than the last

time he had it, so we wound up at the hospital. On the drive over we considered

just calling my sister and asking for a steroid to help him sleep tonight, but

I wasn't comfortable putting her in that position.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, the nurse treated us very perfunctorily when we

first got there, and the interaction got worse when the doc showed up. He wanted

to give Asa x-rays to help diagnose croupe, but every other sign pointed to

croupe. It seemed odd, and Emma pushed back, and noted that if it was not

totally necessary, we were digging out from medical debt and would like to avoid

things that might add expense to the visit. The doc got really defensive and

said that by just coming to the emergency department we were already kinda

throwing cost out the window. Which sounded absolutely absurd, but we didn't

argue our point, though I kinda wish we had. Mostly, this was a reminder that

Blue Hill was taken over by Eastern Maine (now Northern Light) and that they

seem to be pushing imaging in diagnosis a lot more than they used to. Either way

it was a really unpleasent experience.

We got steroids and they gave Asa a vapor that helped clear up his breathing

immediately and we got out of the there. But we didn't get home until close to

noon and the rest of the day was shot.

Yesterday (or rather Saturday), we strange too, where Emma insisted on taking

the whole family up to Bangor to drop Jane off at Brooke's birthday party in

Brewer. I had offered to drive her up, or let her leave the boys at home and go

up, but she wanted to to go as a whole familiy. Which meant we ended up grabbing

lunch at Chic-Fil-A when we don't really have the money for it. The whole thing

was weird and meant that there wasn't a lot of time to get things done around

the house. I furiously clenaed the kitchen and vacuumed before we left, but that

was about it.
