Overview
- Market in China has changed
- Tuition from Int'l boarding has gone down precipitously
- 49 students, 40 from China
- Great for revenue, not so good for program, lacked diversity
- 33 students, 8 from China, 13 other countries
- Much better for program, but revenue is much lower
- Fryberg and Thornton charge above Maine tuition rate
- Brooksville, Penobscot and Sedgwick are first three town meetings
- 25 town academies, 10 in Maine. Great goal.
- By law can ask 19% over current, $2,300 per student
- Feedback is it would be very difficult for towns to make that jump
- More than $300 would have required a separate vote
- Time frame to for getting to 100%
- 3 year roll-out
- Endowment without some dramatic donations is already being used effectively
- Attracts parents to the peninsula, having GSA
- Also, Board that lives in these towns and is sensitive to what it means to ask more
- Seven towns with very different cultures, interesting to find model of
transparency that works
- Busy few months trying to coordinate with all the towns
