We only got two turkeys done in the end, because the power strip the scalder was
plugged into was not working. Once we got that figured out the sun was almost
below the horizon.

Ah, daylight savings time. The day is beautiful, if a bit chilly. It's a good
day to slaughter turkeys. I hurt my finger tossing a football with Paul Schultz
at the Simmons' birthday party yesterday. Naturally, I'm concerned as to whether
it will slow me down today.
Gabe and I picked up the plucker at Hackmatack Farm already, so all that's left
to do is fill up the scalder. Of course, I also haven't done animal chores yet
either. So perhaps I'll do both at the same time.
This morning, sitting at the table, it felt like a holiday for some reason. The
way the sun was coming in after a long period of clouds, combined with the fact
that the house is really clean right now is I think what did it.
Talking this morning with Jess about a fireplace insert, I was finally able to
subtly drop how much we spend on oil each winter. I don't think she had any idea
how expensive it was to heat the extensions, or the rest of the house. I'm not
sure if anything will come of it, but at least she has some more awareness. The
fact that she keeps her room at 65° all the time, simply for the tortoise (which
is ostensibly Gabe's, but I've seen no proof) is nuts.

Tonight, being the first night of day light savings time, I feel compelled to
try to go to bed relatively early. Really, I should be going to bed earlier
regardless of what time it's supposed to be. Nonetheless, the evenings keep
creeping later.
This evening, I got distracted with figuring out monitor layouts. I think I've
got something much simpler than I had before which leverages the thunderbolt
port. But it also seems to make the 4K screen I have run slower. I'll have to
experiment and see if I can bump up the resolution rate or some such.
