Rushed out the door trying to get the dump run done, a care pacakge for Charles & Kathryn and all the other Saturday things before heading to Ellsworth for a hike and to run some errands. Emma was in a pretty crappy mood trying to out the door, and it was made worse knowing that Charles was having to leave promptly at 10:3 to make an appointment in Bangor. In the end, I think it was better that he had already left when we got there. Kathryn was delighted to see us, and we chatted for a little while before taking off.

After running by the Ellsworth Feed & Seed for planting more pots for my over-aggressive squash plants, we grabbed lunch at McDonald's and headed up to Birdsacre. The kids had a great time running around. I had never been, and it was kind of amazing how quiet the preserve was, given how close to Route 1 we were. I was really glad to have gotten out for a hike this week, after missing it the last few weeks. There's a contrast hiking kids between scolding them for picking things up and generally slowing down, and the joy of being outside and watching the kids explore and be energized by nature.
