Journaling the next day is a sign of a good day. It was Father's Day, and we had chocolate bobka for breakfast before heading out to the garden. After jetting a good amount done inside, Emma and her mom took off for Blue Hill for some grocery shopping. When they got back I went for a long run, ending it at the Big House under the auspices of going straight into a German sausage dinner for Father's Day.
Between all that, though, Emma Sweet finally found some mushrooms, after hunting for so long. First she discovered a huge cache of beautiful oysters on a hardwood stump on the north end of Meriby's town lot.
Then, while we were eating dinner she glanced up at an Elm tree with a dead leader on Nammy and Bubba's property and discovered some huge dryad saddles. Those may turn out to be a lot less delicious than the oysters, but apparently even old they can make a good vegetable stock with a slightly cucumber taste. Exciting!

A tougher run than my last 18-miler. The stretch on the New Road was brutal with a slow, hot breeze in my face while the sun beat down on my back. Thankfully it wasn't truly hot, and on the second half of the run it was downright cool. But the flats set me up for a slow climb up Perkins Hill on the Dunbar Road. I even ended up walking a bit more of this run than my last long run. I attrbiute that to reading about the importance of keeping HR down. But the reality is that my HR was hard to keep down because of the heat, regardless of what I did.
