Mom passed away late on Tuesday or early on Wednesday morning. Emma and I had

dinner exactly the week before, that was the last I saw of her. She was in

positive spirits, nothing like the fear she had at Thanksgiving when the TIAs

started. I think legally there's going to have to be a cause of death, but

really it's not hard to say she was struggling ever since the divorce ended.

The day she died was unseasonably warm. I mean, unbelievably warm. Mid 60s

with sunny skies which made it even warmer sitting on her porch.

Amanda and Dirk happened to be passing through Belfast on their way to Swan's

Island for a vacation. Sarah had left for work and when Amanda went to check

on her in the morning she wasn't in her bed and was just lifeless on the

floor. She called paramedics because she didn't know what else to do and Dirk

sat with her body while they waited. He had to move her so she wasn't sort of

crunched up on her side. It wasn't clear if she fell or not.

I went down in the truck because we had loaned the van to Emma and Eli while

their care is in the shop. Emma coordinated getting the kids down with Nammy's

car and arrived later in the afternoon. We just hung out the house for a

while. Margaret stopped by in the late afternoon and we talked about a lot of

things that we hadn't been able to since the 2020 Pandemic started.
