There's a comet that's pretty visible early in the morning for the next three days [fn:coment]. The kids seem interested in trying to get up. I'm not sure it's worth messing up my morning process right now. I just got on a new schedule where I'm able to run in the morning. That should be great for my long run tomorrow.

Maybe well get up, maybe we wont.

I managed to get to bed pretty early last night and this is the third day in a row of waking up early. I wasn't able to get a short run in, but that was due to off-and-on rain. After a dry spring, it's been a wet start to the summer. I'll be curious to see how much rain has accumulated in the rain bucket on the garden fence after this last storm.

Technically I think what we're experiencing today and tomorrow is part of tropical storm Fay. Not sure exactly what path it's on, but there was some talk about that earlier this week.

There's a feeling of lightness that comes over me whenever money is not in short supply. Our tax return should just about pay off our one remaining credit card debt, which leaves us with a family debt and some bills in collection. But beyond that we're sitting pretty high and dry at the moment. Of course, nothing last forever and I'm sure we'll find ourselves in dire straights again. But for now it's nice to feel like everything is able to be taken care of.

It helps that TJ stopped by the other day to help Jess figure out why the porch roof is still leaking. With the reinstatement of my salary at 15Five, we were free to think about hiring him on a retainer to just work through all the problems with the house. That was a good feeling too.

I really didn't think I was going to get this in today. The most difficult aspect of it was trying to keep my heart rate in check while overheating on a humid day. It seemed like the breeze was around just long enough for me to get really hot on the backside of 10-mile square. When I turned at the Dunbar road intersection walking was all I could do to keep my heart rate on the right side of a tempo rate.

I think this intentional slowing down is going to tax my ability to trust the process. My VO₂max peaked four weeks ago and is trending down to neutral. But I feel less exhausted when I finish a run at a slower pace. Probably I am a little less conditioned than before, and probably it's a function of slowing down.
