I can either be organized with my tasks, or present in the rest of my life. That appears to be the trade off. When I am present and around for the kids and Emma Sweet, everything that I have to keep track of on the fringes falls apart. When I am keeping up with the fringes, I am less aware of whats going on in the house. I don't know which situation is better. But I think I need a system that works for both.
I have been kicking around this awesome moment that happened with Silas Sewell the other day. Jane asked why plants are green. I had literally just been looking at a Hacker News post about recent studies that have pointed out the consistency of energy plants get from working on either side of the spectrum of white light, rather than using the strongest part. While I was reading about how plants prefer consistent energy over large bursts of energy, Silas jumps in with "It's like how people can't get all their energy from sugar, they need constant energy." Holy crap! What an amazing synthesis of two ideas. I was absolutely floored. Silas is a bright kid ... now if he can just stop putting his up in peoples' faces

After pushing myself a little harder than usual with my long run on Sunday, I wasn't sure how today would feel. Thankfully, besides still having a little soreness in my croch that hadn't healed, my legs felt good. My heart rate jumped a little faster than it has over the past few weeks, but the rest of the run felt good. Mostly, I was excited to actually have gotten out of bed this morning. Emma had a long night and so slept in. That meant I didn't wake up until after 7. I nearly stayed in bed but then decided the only way I was going to keep my mileage up was to get up and get moving early.

This one weirded me out because the tests worked with the bug where we couldn't import users into groups with group types that already existed. But the solution is clearly better because it works via the UI. Probably I should dig into the tests more, but I don't have time for that right now.

A nice run with new shoes. I just got a pair of GoRun Razor 3 shoes from Running Warehouse that were on sale. They have an assload of cushion, that's for sure. Aside from that they felt nice under foot. I had some reservations at the start of my run. The rash on my left leg was still sore from Sunday, and there was a little discomfort on my left pinky toe from the tight toe box on the Razor 3s (I forgot about that).
But after the turn to get in 6 miles, everything kinda disappeared and it felt really good finishing the run. The podcast I was listening too was about selflessness and emptiness in the context of Buddhisim, a good reminder for a run full of little, inconsequential pains.
