Journal
After all the wind yesterday, today is quite still. The temperature cratered
overnight and it's only just above freezing right now at 10:00. Emma's off with
Ace doing shopping in Blue Hill and the kids are watching TV. I got the kitchen
cleaned and am now just hanging out with a baby. Shortly I'll probably ask the
girls to watch Nabby while I go out and feed pigs and milk the goat.
Reflecting on outcomes of events being beyond our control this morning, and it's
amazing how often we get stuck thinking about what if things were different.
What if we weren't in so much debt? What if we had bought a smaller house? What
if we had fewer kids? What if we had gotten rid of animals sooner? The objective
is always the same. To have a well structured life. But do I not? Am I not able
to eat every night and live in a house I own? Things are truly wonderful, and
fretting about the things in the past does nothing to make it better. Plans for
the future are the only way to succeed, but even those may go awry, and we must
be ready for whatever events are handed to us next.
