In the end, there isn't really anything to do here. I sent along an email to
claim it to Emma's email address, but they have access to it in perpetutity.
There's no need to "claim" the money for Silas, Ace or Nabs
Journal
Got to bed a a decent time yesterday so I was up by 7:30 without feeling
terrible. Emma was kind enough to grab Nabby when she woke up around 6:45.
However, I did wake up to a flurry of emails about CMT meeting and questions of
whether it's happening or not. The mailing list, it would seem, is not the best
way to stay in touch. I wish I could figure out a way to collaborate with folks
that just worked (tm) but it's hard to come up with something thats easy to use
and not too onerous. I really hate just CC'ing everyone in a big email chain ...
but maybe that's the way it's got to be?

I finished Poisonwood Bible tonight and cried a little. There's an inevitbility
of death in the book that, as a parent, is not unsettlng, but unwelcome. I know
the reality of the world we live in. I know everything that lives needs other
things to die. But there out to be some reasonablness to it.
On the flip side, I think my general distaste for modern medicine comes from a
simlar sort of fatalistic pessimism. As part of the historic legacy of western
culture, we have a certain righteousness that can only come from an expectation
to live.
Jared Diamond is a fucking idiot. I can't believe the same moment that gave us
Guns, Germs and Steel, also gave us the Poisonwood Bible. Lines of latitude my
ass. Equatorial life is so volitile that a whole other way of living in nature
must be carved out. It's not about resources being "trapped" between latitudes,
it's simply not being able to build and maintain infrastructure. You can't plant
massive fields of wheat when the seasons are unpredictable.
Humans propsered where we happened to get lucky and find consistent weather and
mild weather patterns. Where life grows slowly enough for us to intervene
consistently. Butwe are part of nature too. So intervene is a loaded word. The
locust intervens as blooms of insects eat everything living in a half mile swath
of country.
The only sin we have left that we wont acknowledge is the sin of hoping to live
forever. And that's baggage we carry with us because without it we would be
nowhere. The only animating force.

At the meet and greet with Shawn Blodgett at the library (which went quite
well), I overheard Mike Coughlin talking with Alyssa Radcliff about trying to
find a good time for Cathy Coughlin's memorial service. I didn't have anything
to contribute to the conversation, but Alyssa mentioned "you want to have it
soon enough so you don't have to relive everything." Mike agreed. I realized I
had nothing to say to that at all. All lived experience talking.

The Noreaster that was supposed to come and bring 30 mph gusts and a chance for
snow burned up. It was cold and a little windy, very raw, but not a storm.
