A few weeks ago Emma Sweet and I got into a strange argument with [[id:d562cd49-c073-4d5c-bf96-0300568f74e9][Jessica

Rollerson]] about When to Talk to a Police Officer. She, Gabe and Eli were on

property that Eli’s Emma’s family owns in Ellsworth and the police stopped by

saying someone had complained of seeing someone they didn’t know on the

property. Emma and I kind of lit into her talking to the police officer,

justifying why they were okay to be there. We argued that under no circumstance

should you have to justify yourself to a police officer, especially if all they

do is come to you with suspicion of trespassing. Jess seemed to think we were

being purposely difficult or obstructionist and that the officer was just

looking for information.

Couldn’t get a better explanation for why The Fifth Amendment exists and why,

under no circumstance, should you try to explain yourself or your actions to a

police officer.

Not a lot of ideas this week. But I did volunteer for the security working

group, so it seemed like a conversation about cross-squad initiatives like

performance, culture or security is a good idea.

We mostly used this session for a mini-estimation session today.

Interestingly, Evgeniy asked me after the estimation how things in the States,

the unrest around George Floyd’s murder and what-not, was affecting me. I had

to say that it didn’t affect me much being in a rural part of the country.
