Maple Tapping Season 2021

Going to try to keep track of the tapping season here.

The weather today was brutal. It never rose about 20, and with the wind it wouldn't have mattered if it had. Nothing running, and I'm not even going to go check.

I tried to light the stove and Emma suggested I just take the day off. I'm just worried that we'll wind up with tons of sap over the next few days.

Collected a little more sap today after the run started in earnest yesterday. Probably 1.5 gallons today that hasn't been reduced yet.

It rained most of the day today so while there was a little to collect I had to wait till later in the day to start the stove. Between that and the increasing wind, it's been hard to find time to get the sap reduced.

First collection, got about six gallons between our three setups so far. There are seven taps in the tree on the Access Road corner, another 8 down on the right and seven on the left. The yield on the corner was best, with the right side yielding a little over a gallon and almost none on the left.

Started using the wood stove to reduce today and it's been a blast. Nice to be using wood and to be doing it outside.
