Timeline

- Note taken on

Out from seeing the doc. Whew! Turns out I am going to need my ankle repaired

surgically. Dr. Rainier said that while he is usually just as conservative an

ortho surgeon as Dr. Trapathi, in this case, he felt that the fracture was

just too far from the source of the break to heal well. If I was older and

lower expectations for mobility post repair, I could probably get away without

surgery, but there'd be solid chance my ankle would end up being unstable as a

result. That, the doc said, could lead to more frequent injuries in the future

based on my level of activity.

So he's going to put to pins in the distal end of the tibia. But the other

discovery today was that the pain in my upper calf was actually a break up

there to. So I broke my leg and ankle. The leg fracture will heal fine on it's

own, but the doc wants to also put a thread thre my tib-fib complex, as he

said it's common in these sorts of traumas to have damage to the connective

tissue between the two bones. Over time this can lead to instability of the

joint as well, and potentially more injury in the future.

So there's that. I'm sitting in the car witing for Emma to get out of Shaw's

before we pick up sushi for dinner and head home.

- Note taken on

I went to bed in reasonable order last night, but then woke up when Emma got

up to get Gabe on the bus (which didn't come 😞). I was cold and pretty sure I

was never going to get back to bed, but then I totally fell back asleep until

almost 10 😖 I guess I needed the sleep, but it left me feeling slow this

morning. I'm trying to get into a grove, but without a lot of luck. My

doctor's appointment is weighing heavy on me, as I'm not sure what the x-ray

will show and whether the new doc I've been assigned will hold Dr. Tripathi's

line of allowing it to heal without intervention. Personally I'd love to avoid

metal pins in my ankle, but I suppose either outcome would be for the best.
