It’s been an odd day. Emma Sweet has been napping since about 11, along with
Asa Sewell who was sent upstairs for a time out and just fell back asleep.
Maybe they both really needed it. It left me hanging out with Jane, Silas and
Nabby. Not a huge deal, but made me feel a hell of a lot less productive than
I would have been.
I also realized this morning that I need to do a better job with keeping track
of tasks and journaling in Org-mode. There’s a value proposition in keeping
track of these things, and I’m losing it when I don’t track everything.

I started reading The Making of Prince of Persia. I’ve found myself having a
hard time sticking with any given book for long lately. I haven’t finished [[id:e5560df4-1043-42bf-8f9b-40e357477556][Red
Famine]] and thanks to Erik Rhoten’s suggestion I started [[id:d87f8b51-1b25-4634-a4db-a660a3f78f40][Switch: How to Change
Things When Change is Hard]]. I also haven’t really finished Cold Mountain
either.
I’ve found something really curious in James Mechner’s diary from writing POP.
I am compelled to keep reading it, even though at a base level it’s really a
college student writing a video game and hoping to get lucky writing
screenplays. Yet, his struggles are real, and are things I’ve dealt with.
- Note taken on Silas Sewell was being a bit of a
distracted jerk on his class call today. He had dressed up as an astronaut
because I think the costume was there from the Demo 2 launch yesterday (which
was scrubbed), and then proceeded to talk at people and not listen when other
people were talking. It was strange.
Really, I think everyone here is just done with School. Emma Sweet’s checked
out. The Kids have checked out. Everyone.

Got an Email from Jeremiah Savage about the site going down today. I had been
more than a week slow in responding to him about a project to upgrade the
server, so i was already feeling guilty. Thankfully he was able to reboot the
server and get things back online, but I really need to figure out a time to
coordinate getting this work done.

Andrii Pleskach said he had a great day of getting development work done. It
was nice to see him surprised by his own productivity. For my part it wasn’t
nearly as productive. I cleaned up the Namely PR and the documentation ticket
is back in front of me and I’m not totally sure how to clean it up.

Andrés Álvarez gave an interesting warning about using our internal wrapper for
`CSVDictWriter` that makes sure to pad equations with a space so Excel doesn’t
auto-run things that get exported in our CSV process.
Patrick Sanders also made an appeal for folks to volunteer for either a
security working group or an accessibility working group if they had an
interest in either. After the call, and thinking it through a bit, I told him
I was interested in serving on the security working group. It seems like an
interesting space and a place where one could make a difference improving
15Five’s default security model.
