It appears we are going to have our next baby not at home. Everything seemed to be getting better but at our ultrasound appointment today it turned out Emma's amniotic fluid levels were nearly double the expected level. 39.8 v. 20. It was a huge blow to find out that the midwife group at the Ellsworth hospital wouldn't work with us. The crazy part is not having any idea why it's happening. Emma's been keeping her diet in check lately, but something else is going on.
I honestly wonder sometimes if could have anything to do with out active Emma is. That's not a fair judgment, but she gets stuck thinking somethings hard and just stops. So when walking becomes hard work, it's a non-starter to encourage her to do more of it. That's probably not totally relevant.
Another difficult part of this news is simply working with Dani instead of Donna and Ellie. For some reason I think they would have been, at the very least, more casual about things leading up to this news, and maybe even more encouraging about still trying for a homebirth. The emotional toll this news has had alone has been difficult, and can't be doing good things for Emma's physical state.
And yet, to Dani's credit, she's coming down to Portland tomorrow to be with us at our noon ultrasound at Maine Medical. She doesn't have to do that.
