Conclusion of my first week at Elation is at hand. It was an epiphany today when both of my engineering directors walked out at 3 p.m. What a thought. Take off a little early on a Friday. I'm in BART now on my way to Oakland to meet up with Emma in Alameda. I can't wait. The last two things to do are enjoy dinner with Charles and Kathryn, then take off for the airport. I even watched Andrew leave his computer at the office.
Besides today, I haven't journaled most of the week, so it's worth saying that while things went great, I felt a little bad leaving Emma to fend for herself most of the week. Things worked out fine, and Emma seemed to have a great time by herself, but I know from experience that that's not her first choice. We did get in some great walks around the city this week, including one to the Botanical Gardens this morning. It was a perfect morning for a walk in Golden Gate Park.
We had a wonderfully spontaneous dinner on Thursday with my new co-workers, Josh and Phill and their wives Sarah and Melanie. Walking into the restaurant attached to the hotel we found them just sitting down to dinner. That allowed for a much more laid back time to get to know everyone before the party at Monroe later that night. There really does seem to be a culture of family at Elation, both amongst workers and a respect for personal family.
Now to refocus myself on making sure I'm doing right by all of my charges: family, town and work.
