Journal
Got a nice start to today. There's a pattern approaching my days now where I get
the kids up and dressed early ate breakfast, and then planted them up in their
room while I did my morning stand-up. Nammy then came by to grab Silas just in
case there enough kids for the Winter Vacation camp at the Wilson Museum.
There didn't end up being camp though, so when I dropped Nabby and Ace off, Si
was already there.
The Maine 200 meeting this morning went well, too. Lots of positive activity,
but we need to start nailing down speakers and specific events. I'm hopeful
we'll get a project manager on board soon to take over a lot of the day to day
coordination.
I have also found a need for planning out my days in advance. I'm not sure the
best way to do that right now because currently my day page does not get created
until the next day. But maybe I just need to know that my daypage rolls over the
day before and I populate it with the next days events.

An interesting article on lobste.rs today was how we handle large numbers in
computers. It turns out, while we got our numerals from the Arab world, we say
the numbers using our Latin roots. So while in the Western world you'd say 521
as "five hundred twenty one," in the Arab world they say "one, twenty and five
hundreds." I dare say the latter method might actually make numbers more
logical, or at least their construction.

I lost a shit ton of time this evening to experimenting with sway. I probably
should have been doing it in a virtual machine, but instead I screwed up my
login for a bit and even had to reboot at one point. As part of the experiment,
however, I figured out to not try to use OpenGL for the compton backend and my
X1 Carbon now actually feels at least as fast as the X220 with FreeBSD on it.
I'm strangely proud of being back on FreeBSD on most of my machines. I'm limited
slight by a reliance on Zoom for work and mopidy/spotify for music. There's no
working spotify library for FreeBSD, and zoom is, well, total shit, so it
doesn't work either. There is a web client for Zoom, but I can't get both my
camera and mic working at the same time in any browsers.
In the real world, today was a strange day. Things generally went pretty well,
but the kids have been slowly trashing some things and I've kind of given up
cleaning up after them. Perhaps I'll set the boys to task to find all the car
puzzle game pieces and plus-plus blocks that are scattered over the floor.
