A haggard trip out to the west coast, but I'm here now. Decided to try doing a Lectio Devina again today using a Mary Oliver poem. It really is a wonderful practice that gives one a chance to stop and just listen to yourself reading a poem. Poetry is such a hard thing to pin down, and I feel more and more that really, anything that involves word play, drama and emotion probably falls in the spectrum of poetry. A great monologue in a movie or play, a slick and cutting rhym from a hip-hop track, or an emotionally honest sonnet are all a type of poetry.

I'm interviewing with Elation today. The travel snafu yesterday, when I didn't take off from Bangor until after 1 p.m., meant that I was on-call and missed a number of meetings while I was in the air. I hadn't intended to make excuses at Ridecell during my travel so that I wouldn't have to lie about what I was up to. But here we are. I survived the mess, but it was more stressful than it needed to be. Amor Fati.

What I really need to do is go back to running my day through a todo list. I keep thinking that org-mode will work for todos, but so much of my life is spent not in Emacs that it really isn't practical. And when your todo list is impractical, nothing else works very well.

One thing I did on the flight out yesterday was brainstorm some five-year plan ideas, and to think about who I am, what I want, and where I think I'm going. It occurred to me that if I jump ship from Ridecell I should probably have a pretty good idea of why and what I'm looking for. A very useful exercise.
