We put [[id:e6d688cb-fd72-469d-a581-627d7a4b22f3][Finnegan]] down today

Jane had the hardest time when we were at the vet, but it's been weighing hard

on Emma too. I haven't written much about Finnegan lately, but that's mostly

because he had been so low energy lately.

When we got him to the vet, our initial hope had been to get a better diagnosis

of what was wrong. He had been having a lot of trouble standing up on his own

the past month or so. But within the last two weeks he started even having

trouble going outside and peeing. Interestingly, the vet re-affirmed out fears

that the issue was a problem with dogs like him where nerves on the far side of

the nervous system degenerate over time. She said there wasn't really anything

to do except help the dog with the mechanical problems of walking and getting

up. But for a dog Finnegan's size, that would be hard.

The vet noted that most people with a dog of his age and with that developed of

nerve degeneration would be wise to put them down. Around 10 this morning,

Finnegan went hard to sleep. After they administered the overdose of anesthesia,

he was gone.

I think the loss will become more obvious as we go about the next few days or weeks.
