Priorities today are to clean up my resume and get it to DOD (and in shape for
other opportunities later), get the Elation exit agreement done, talk to Cris,
and clean up a few little tasks. I'd also like to review my open projects and
see what I can knock out without a day job.
DONE Mentorship call with Cris

+ Work relationship as a dating relationship
+ Difficult part is knowing who was wrong
+ Am I incompetent?
+ Feel like Elation was not in a place where I could be effective
+ Needed someone who could function autonomously
+ Yet, there's plenty I could have done in terms of shoring up my work
+ The trouble was knowing when and how to ask for help
+ It's a recurring theme
DONE Send a system check email to CMT list

Sent out an email to the CMT group asking for folks who can see it to reply.
Hopefully that gives me a secondary way to see who isn't getting the emails.

A bit of a slog today. Felt good starting out, but I had eaten recently and
there's a bunch of illness in our house and i think it all kinda piled up. I was
slow with a high heart rate on the return leg.
DONE Format mentorship plan and send to Ed

Ed asked what my goals are for a mentorship. I think my career goal is probably
somewhere on the engineering manager or CTO end of things. I don't honestly
expect to get there soon or ever, but I have always fasioned myself a better
thinker than I am a developer. Don't get me wrong, I love to write code, but
I tend to find more faults in how a team is being managed than the work that's
produced by that team. For example, I can do a code review, but I don't always
catch the obvious things, while I'm quick to notice when some part of a process
is not working.
DONE RSVP for men's club on April 17

Journal
First day without Elation work ... I think the strangest part of being laid off
is not having specific tasks to do anymore. Hell, yesterday I realized I left
out an important aspect of testing some work I did and ended up messaging Ayhan
on LinkedIn with instructions. I want to help. I still want to work on aspects
of elation's software, but they don't want me anymore. That hurts.
---
In other news, Peter did go back to school today. Crampton said he was a little
more subdued that he has been recently. It's an interesting development, but we
still don't have a great plan for what happens next. Maybe he'll try to come
back? If he does the plan is to offer him a trip to Cali to spend time with
Meriby, or placement at the rehab home in Portland if there's space.
---
On my run today it occurred to me that Elation may have been making efforts to
shore up their HCC and care gap product for some sort of acquisition. They
hadn't replaced Ness, Mapolo, Tim, Louis, or Tony. Either they never meant to
staff thos positions, hiring is too hard, or they didn't want to fill them.
Between that and Phill suddenly being pulled into really focused work to improve
our HCC calculations and care gap system ... I think they're trying to bump up
the value of the company while not increasing their liabilities.
