Journal
A gray, rainy day for Kember's birthday greeted us. The girls didn't seem to care.
Emma let me sleep in, for a little bit after Nabby was awake, which was great.
Especially because she was up making crêpes for everyone. The girls watched
Nabby for a bit too.
The house without the two boys was really quiet. Nammy came by last night to
take the boys for a sleepover when we realized that Silas was going to have
serious issues being calm and polite while Jane and Kember had a ton of friends
over. So she graciously took the boys and the house was transformed.
I helped the girls build a fort, which lasted until after dinner when the girls
kept pushing the walls out and the sheets kept coming down. The reality of
whether the fort would stay up was actually a pretty good source of anxiety for
me.
Now I'm at church waiting to walk folks through taking our collaborative
ministry survey. I'm not sure how many people I'll be able to get through,
though, because Emma needs me back by noon to take Jane up to OWL.

I had a great time this afternoon playing Tales of the Arabian Nights with
Kember and Gabe. When Heather came by to pick Kember up Silas stepped in and
helped play her character. Ultimately, Silas did pretty well, Gabe kicked butt
and I managed to run in to all sorts of horrible luck :) I'm glad Gabe did
well, because I think it makes the game go a little faster. It occurred to me
that he might enjoy it when we were talking about D&D and character building at
dinner last night.
Arabian Nights is a mini-character building game and not so much a strategy
game. Thus, Emma will never like it, but for certain people it really scratches
an itch.
After all that, I spent the afternoon lost in configuring i3 with polybar
instead of the stock i3status bar. This was all to my detriment as Emma ended up
frustrated that she felt she was doing everything. of course, while she was
hanging out chatting with Jess before dinner I was washing dishes, starting
laundry, folding dry clothes and tidying the house. So I don't think her wrath
was totally fair. But it also doesn't have to be. I was definitely parked in
front of a computer for large chunks of this evening.
