Journal
It's absolute gem of a day outside, though a little chilly. Emma made a feast of
a breakfast out of Eggs Benedict in honor of Kember's birthday weekend.
---
My run today was very head clearing. I got to think pretty long about the idea
of skunkworks style building out a kubernetes per-branch deployment tool for
15Five, and also the idea of just experimenting with adding django-guardion to
the code base to build out permissions for custom attributes. The nice part
about local dev and branching is that you can experiment and then throw things
away. I think I need to do a better job of experimenting rather than waiting for
someone to bless an idea. Maybe timebox it if takes too long, and make sure
sprint goals are still being met.
This is one of the things that I really struggle with professionally. There's
what I should be doing, and then ideas I have. I tend to feel guilty if I get
lost on a non-prioritized project at work because I should be dumping all my
time into product work. But there should be room to grow as an engineer too.
Almost like a 10% time for personal ideas related to the business. But do folks
have faith that that would work?
