17:05 Diligence
Trying once again to get back to following a routine and using stoic principles more in life has been humbling. One of the most difficult things I've found is keeping perspective on what is expected of you. Lately, especially with the two most recent holidays I have felt vaguely guilty about just tuning certain things out. Ridecell, municipal things, church. But the reality is that you have to use task management to keep track of what you need to do and then you have to TRUST it.
In the absence of trust you will always drive yourself nuts, wondering if there was something more important you should have been doing, why things aren't getting done, or what the best thing to do right now is. Sometimes the best thing to do is enjoy a cup of coffee and read a book. There's nothing wrong with that. But when you do that while ignoring your task list, there is something wrong.
With that said, I'm going to log off the computer and spend some family time.
23:47 Fables
My dad got us a bunch of leather bound classic books for Christmas. On the face of it, it seems silly. A promo from B&N run amok. But in reality, there's something charming about being able to read the Little Princess to Jane, or Aseop's Fables to the kids. We read a handful of fables to them tonight, and while it was sort of hit or miss, there were some neat ones in there. The more you repeat them, too, the more the lessons stick and the more familiar they grow with the individual story. Of course, the more we grow familiar too. There's also the Blue Fairy Book, which is delightful.
