Work
DONE Figure out if I can clean up strength based high fives to work along side company values
CLOSED:
We knew this was folly. We knew the last continent would be harsh and unforgiving. But when the ice refused to relent, refused to release us into the ocean again, I knew what my crew needed. I turned everyone to 15Five and implored them to use High Fives to buoy each others depressed spirits.
Alas, upon successfully engaging the crew with the product we discovered they had no way to spot strengths in our brothers! What foul trick was this. And yet, upon successfully making the shores of South Georgia and dragging our sore and broken bodies over the most pitiful mountains to the whaling camp, what did we discover?
During a recent hackathon, those sad engineers at 15Five and finally implemented strength-based high fives! With our travails behind us, we set about recognizing, nay spotting, the strengths we saw demonstrated when death knocked and we refused to answer.
Before long, our spirits warmed not just by burning vats of whale oil, but by the wonderful memories called up via high fives and general relief over not dying in the vast and brutal antartic desert. Being able to call out each others strengths with strengh spotting made it our survival even sweeter. But I bet Courtney Bigoney can explain the WHY of that better than I ever could!

Timeline
- Note taken on
Did not take as many notes today as the past few days. Most of today was spent in meetings for the second day of the 15Five Virtual Retreat 2021 while the rest of it was manically trying to finish up the Strenghts-Spotting hackathon project and record a demo video.
In the end, I'm really proud of the work we did on both hackathon projects.
For dinner tonight, Silas Sewell made focaccia bread with a recipe from his monthly box he got from Dad. Jane Sewell also made brownies for desert, which we discovered after dinner were originally invited in Bangor, Maine of all places!

I was up until close to 3 last night hacking on the strength-based high fives. It's still not polished enough to merge, but I like the progress I got done for the Hackathon - Jan 2021. The one issue I have now is that I can't commit because there's a breaking tests. But as best I can tell, that test is broken even without my changes, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
It was a little strange waking up so late, but part of that was due to the fact that Emma was really involved in looking for the next Ranger's Apprentice book online and hardly acknowledged I was there. I had to roast some coffee so settled in with Nabby and made us each a piece of toast and put away dishes. That was a nice break in my morning.
Now, however, I'm back to the grind and trying to figure out if I should keep hacking or step into a virtual family meal ... I think I'm leaning towards the meal.
