A weight was lifted today. The well seems pretty clear right now. I don't want to jinx it like I did when Osborne's left after fixing the overflow problem the first time. But we genuinely seem to have a lot of pressure now and the filter is not clogging more than once a day. Perhaps we've turned a corner.
The house is also pretty clean right now. I feel a lot of validity in the idea that you have to keep things to clean to improve them. When spaces get cluttered it becomes hard to think clearly about what needs to happen next.
This coming week is the virtual retreat for 15Five. I have some apprehension about what it will actually be like. Mostly this stems from the engineering retreat feeling mostly like a regular week. I think there will still be a lot of pressure to get regular work done, even as we are ostensibly supposed to be on retreat. But that's par for the course at this point in the pandemic.
I read a really great article on the values of using emacs today which caused quite a dust up on Hacker News :smile: Ironically, when someone fairly accurately pointed out the stark difference between people who use technology as a means to collect dollars and people who are genuinely curious, a lot of folks got pretty worked up that it was okay to just count the dollars. I for, one, find the lack of curiousity in tooling and the world around you in general to be a significant hurdle to meaningful work, no matter what your doing.
I love Emacs in tech because it's an amazingly flexible tool and I like learning how things work. The same holds for Baking where I love to understand why things work the way they do rather than busting open a recipe, following it and having something come out.
The competency and comprehension of my environment is at least as important as the result of a process. Maybe that's the difference.
Also, I think I'm gonna try to use more Intersitial journaling for my daily notes. Adding a flow to my day rather than a set-and-forget sort of todo list driver.
