23:39 Fredericton

Got back from a trip up to King's Landing and Fredriecton today. Aside from the incessant noise generated by our children, the trip was a total success. King's Landing was curious this time around. I feel like the charm we felt last time took a little while to come back. Emma, despite what she really enjoys, always seems to think that the daily activities are where the fun is. But really, you just bounce around the houses looking for folks who are in a casual, chatty mood and park yourself there. The kids found a woman working in the flower gardens near the reservoir who I remembered from last year. She showed the kids how to make snapdragons snap, which was amazing in and of itself. She also cut some flowers for the kids to play with.

Watching the kids run around the enjoy themselves while learning about drying flowers, I was struck by how open their houses were the outside. Everyone was always a step or two away from being outside all the time, and the outdoors was where everything seemed to happen. There was also the simple act of drying flowers to preserve some part of nature to be enjoyed later. I realized that what we're really after is ways to enjoyably pass the time and to be able to eat, sleep and drink when the time is right. Beyond that, ambition is a bit cruel and unpredictable.
