22:04 Eve

We had a wonderful talk with Ellie and Donna this evening after deciding at the hospital to go forward with a planned C-section for Abigail. Even now I can say that out loud or type it and I wonder if we've made the best decision, but it doesn't really matter.

Ellie seemed almost caught off guard by our announcement, and Donna sighed a little. I think mostly Ellie was coming at the pregnancy from a perspective of disappointment. She has tons of experience and would have been able to probably avoid telling us a lot of the risks we would take by trying to have Abigail at home, knowing that she's seen a lot. And yet, the people who are providing care made it very clear that there is always a chance for placental abruption or prolapsed cord when there's a lot of fluid involved. And that in either case, the result would be desperately trying to hold the baby in while driving to the closest hospital as soon as possible.

Once Ellie had made her peace with the reality, she became a fount of ideas for how make sure Nabby is brought into the world as well as she can be. She encouraged colonizing her with bacteria from Emma post-partum and to make sure she has someone there, loving her and touching her while the pediatrician does the things they claim they have to do.

Donna also warned us about the disruptions caused by vital taking at a hospital after the birth, and how it will get very very annoying.

I don't know exactly what the procedure will be like. I do know that Emma is anxious and fearful of the spinal, and the various things she'll have to go through before the operation. I also don't know what to expect from the recovery, but it sounds like it could take a while.

At the end of the day, we'll have a new baby and we'll adjust to a new normal.
