Journal

A busy day by most accounts. Jail volunteering was interesting. The guard I was

working with seemed really tired, and it turned out they had had to transport an

inmate on Tuesday do a prison after he was sentenced in a murder trial. It

didn't seem like the jail had much experience with trials of that gravity.

Mostly they deal with drug offenses and minor criminal acts.

lI was working by myself, which was actually kind of nice, and, in keeping with

my personality, a lot less energy draining than hanging out with another

volunteer and keeping up small talk.

We also all went to the plant sale this morning as a family. Emma woke up super

early to make rhubarb pies for the bake sale. I was initially reluctant to go,

but it was a lot of fun. A lot of folks from the community were at the sale.

I was even able to get a little bit of garden time in. The last few days were

not great days for getting things done, so I was excited to get the carrot bed

cleared and tomato trellises up.
