A strange Fourth of July to be sure. We went into town a little after noon for a cook out at Nammy and Bubba's. The town was nearly empty, though every once in a while someone would walk or ride a bike past. Meriby Sweet and I talked a bit about politics and the state of our house. She was full of bluster about wanting to help us sand and paint our house, but I doubt it will come to anything. Thankfully between our tax return this year and the closing out of our debt to Nammy and Bubba in a few months we should have a lot of disposable income to start spending on the house.
Neriby also had an interesting idea for the garage and porch. When I was talking about having to jack it up and put pilings under the sills, she wondered if we wouldn't be better off to tear it down. It's an interesting idea. Really, we could re-do all the garage and porch parts of our house, reusing a lot of parts. The whole setup is a bit funky and was put up around what already existed. If we rebuilt the garage, we could move it a little farther from the house and put in a breezeway instead of the ally. The garage could then be an unheated mud room and storage for outdoor things. That's pretty much how we use it now but it's detached.
