Listened to a really interesting discussion on Finding Mastery with the founder of Toms Shoes. Turns out Toms is short for Tomorrow, and the idea was to make tomorrow better through the buy 1, give 1 program.

We got rain from Tropical Storm Isaias earlier this week, but it was only a glancing blow, and most of Maine is still in a drought. Apparently the County is in a severe drought. So we're getting lucky in that respect. But we're still having to do a lot of garden watering.

Starting to wonder if I can still get this in if I help get dinner ready and get the chicken slaughter done by about 4. If I can then be home by 7 maybe I'm not going to be percevied as a total asshole for taking care of myself.

Woke up and just didn't have this one in me today. Maybe I'll do a shorter run later today, or maybe I'll try to get pretty close to 20 at some point. We'll see. Emma Sweet was pretty put out with me all week for my increasing amount of running. So this was as much a mental break as a physical one.

All I did today was toss an egg, a splash of milk (¼ cup, maybe?), a 1/2 cup of sugar and maybe a teaspoon of cinnamon to my levain, added another 3 to 4 cups of bread flour and mixed it all together. The kids dug it, and it had a hell of a lot more bite to it than commerically yeasted cinnamon rolls.

In keeping with the theme, the Drought of 2020 continues largely unabated. I'm watering the garden just about every day at this point. Thankfully we have a nice deep well, so we're not in any sort of danger, but it would be nice to get a soaking rain eventually.

I let one fermentation go too long and there's black mold forming. I'm going to take two of the buckets out, feed the chickens with the last one, and restart the fermentation with the liquid from the last.
