Journal

Today was a long day. It was Silas' sixth birthday, which seems nuts to me. I

don't know how the kids keep getting older, but I guess that's what happened.

We started the day with breakfast at Martha's up in Ellsworth. This was a

delightful meal out. I love diners, and this was a Bubba request for his

birthday.

We spent a ton of time in Ellsworth and didn't get home until just about 1. Then

Emma invited the Blodgett's and the Simmons' over for a piñata party, as Emma

had bought a bunch of candy and we ordered a space ship piñata for him. We hung

it up in the dining room and I had the foresight to perforate the thing all over

so it was actually possible for the kids to open it.

Each kid to a turn from smallest to biggest, but with Silas kicking things off.

When it got to Kember at the end she bludgeoned the thing pretty well. Both

Story and Wilden were really good at it too.

As Jess and the Blodgett's took off, my mom showed up and we started family

dinner time. One thing became clear quickly, I was running out of extrovert

energy. As the meal wore on I had to disappear a few times to not totally lose

it. Nabby fell asleep on me for part of the time before dinner.
