The new year started with some drama yesterday. Dr. Amy Movious took
out her chest drain to great drama. When the tube came out a big slug of junk
came with along with a little bit of air once a bandage was put over it. This
caused pretty much everyone in the room to panic a little bit and look for a
solution. Mostly they seemend concerned because they didn't know where the air
was coming from.
Once we had a stable dressing on it that included a Vaseline plug the air seemed
to stop coming and everyone was able to breathe a little. Dr. Movious ordered an
x-ray wherein it was revealed that this drainage and air seepage was probably
"good" bad news. It was exciting and scary, but ultimately her lungs looked way
clearer after that junk left. Movious suspected, and the X-ray provided evidence
that the air was from a small pocket between the visceral layers of membrane by
the lungs created by the necrosis at the bottom of her lung. The discussion then
turned to the worst case scenario of needing a partial pnemoectomy. In a worst
case it would also mean transport to Boston.
But Nabby stabilized just fine. In fact, the past day and a half she's looked
more like herself than she has in a long while.
