Journal

Another beautiful day this morning, with tons of sunshine. For some reason,

there were still a ton of mosquitos outside. I thought they didn't like sun.

Emma got the kids on the bus and then we were packing for going down to Boston

for my PathAI interview. I felt a little off all morning, and I'm not sure if it

was due to an issue with bowel movements (feel backed up), or nervousness about

the interview. But I'm not myself today.

I also got an email from Datadog that they're not moving on with the interview

process, which is kind of a confidence blow. Not awesome going into my on-site

with PathAI. I wonder what I can do differently.

I feel like Elation has rotted away at my confidence as an engineer a lot. I

didn't always feel like the smartest person in the room at Ridecell, but I

didn't feel like a failure either. Now I'm not sure I can even do half of this

stuff. It doesn't help that interviewing is the worst part of tech. How much can

you learn watching someone write a recursive function? How often do such data

patterns even come up when you're building an API? It's nice to have the

background, but half the time it's the architecture and design that matter, not

the underlying implementation.
