I've had some interesting if rabbling thoughts lately. During my vacation, when I very rarely touched my computer and never once did Ridecell work, I stumbled on a piece pointing out the importance of considering the lasting impact the things you do may have. Not as an exercise in vainity, but rather a concentration of attention. Do not spend your days wasting time. Or if you are going to, really waste it solidly by staring at a wall or something.
There are four main foci in my life right now. My family, my career, my civic life and my volunteerism. Everything sort of ebbs and flows in importance, while generally being a father takes the cake. I'm feeling drawn back into the volunteerism again, but not as a UU, rather as a person who is curious about things and want to teach it the kids in our community.
I think I'd like to start a computer club after school. The challenge would be not betraying myself by going all retro on the kids, but at the same time, not just being a place to play video games either. You have to meet kids where they're at, but also push them a little to explore. I think a good jumping off point right now is either Unity3D or _why's poignant guide to ruby ... that takes me back and suddenly it's 30 minutes later than my bedtime and the house is cold, and I need to sleep.
