Journal
A tremendously windy and rainy day outside has caused the basement to flood
for the first time in months. It reminds me of all the things not done and sucks
some of the wind out of my sails.
I also spent a chunk of time today moving computer around. I've been a bit
obsessed lately with getting things just so as regards computers. I'm nervous
that I am moving away from minimalism. A big part of that is need to hang onto
Linux for Zoom at work. I wonder how much I really NEED it.
On the plus side, I've moved the iMac up over the main desk so I have a little
vertically oriented monitor as the entry point to it for Zoom. That has
liberated the T440s to be used as an actual laptop again. Surprise, surprise,
it's a perform-ant little thing. Now I can use it to Zoom on the go and as a
pseudo gaming machine.
I also ordered a big ass rack server with 32 gigs of ram and two 6-core Xeon
processors to setup as a FreeBSD server in the basement. Time was I was worried
about electricity usage, but I've gotten my hosting costs down enough that this
is okay.
I need to get a little work for work done now, and then we'll see what happens
with misc. other tasks I have to do.
