Today promises to be more overcast and warm than the last few days. On vacation last week the weather took a hard turn towards cold morning and warm days. It was really nice on Thursday to be out at Lamoine State Park camping with the kids. After going back and forth on how to do camping, we ended up having Emma drive me and the two older kids out to the site, setting up and doing dinner and s'mores together. Emma took Nabby and Asa home to sleep while Jane, Silas and I slept in Lamoine.
In the morning, Emma picked us up and we continued down to MDI where we did the Jordan Pond hike together. THe kids complained a bit near the end of the over-3-mile hike, but ultimately I think everyone had a really good time. The kids really do love being outside.
Yesterday was Nabby's birthday! Emma made a bunch of pizzas and we setup a table in the garden. In a stroke of inspiration, I started a small fire in the garden fire pit and everyone seemed to have a great time.

The gist of what I want to talk about is the not mistaking science for religion and religion for science. Smarter people than
I had a friend in college. She wasn't a close friend, but she played ultimate frisbee and we hung out from time to time. She was a smart person. An exceedingly smart person. Her work on fruit fly genetics in the biology department at a minor liberal arts college in the Midwest was good enough to be publish while she was undergrad.
She was also a deeply conservative Christian.
