Started today in a funny mood as Emma seemed put out with me from the moment I didn't wake up in time. It probably didn't help that Jane was a total pill about going to school today. She eneded up missing the bus and I drove her in before heading up to Ellsworth with the boys. I've been sort of mailing it in with Ridecell the past few days and finally found motivation to get some things done today but had instead promised Emma I'd take the boys. So that was stressful.
On top of that I had a meeting I told Marsha Mason I'd attend at 2 and that meant even less time to get things done, or go for a run, which with the mild weather I was excited about. In the end I didn't get the run in, which is fine, and in attending the meeting I had a great time and felt really useful given where the folks planning to launch a walking tour app of Castine were at.

Got a much better handle on what on earth I'm doing in the town office. So much about municipal governance is just about knowing where to step, how hard and when it is just going to hurt no matter how hard you try to avoid it. One thing I'd like to start is a select board blog that reviews major parts of how our town works. First step should probably be to create a list of topics for such a blog. Things that jump to mind are wastewater process, where our water comes from, the economics of plowing (when they go out, the job itself and planning for big storms), bond issuing, tax assessments, etc.
Besides that, on my ride home from town I was thinking about having to go to Ellsworth and realized that Jane has the day off from school. So rather than me go up by myself I pitched the idea that the whole family could go up, which Emma really loved. Always nice when you can come up with a plan that makes everyone feel good.
As Jane has begun reading it's occured to me that I could begin teaching her how a command line works. One of my back burner projects is to create a "choose your own adventure" bash program that teaches kids to interact with a keyboard, rather than a mouse.
