Journal

Slept on the couch last night. Nabby was not settling in her crib well, and Emma

said she was on the edge of being sick the other day. So I figured I'd give her

some quality sleep. I still got slightly north of six hours of sleep, so it

wasn't all bad, but I know I'm gonna be tired later today.

Time to get back into a rhythm as well. Jon Noel bailed me out with the soccer

game and practice this week, but now I'm a little worried about the bar he set

with the kids. I probably shouldn't worry, but that's life.

My mentor meeting with Cris this morning was solid. We talked about a lot of

soft stuff before getting into the discussion I wanted to have about product

engineering and the problem of working autnomously while also following along to

product's drum beat.

The conclusion we arrived at was that, as an engineer, the best thing you can do

is speak in product's love language of documentation. Document proposed

solutions so you can make arguments and come to agreements. If you have an idea

for some cool new tool that might make engineering's job easier, you have to

sell it, just like product has to sell their idea.
