Journal
Church today was wonderful. Ariel was leading the service and asked Jess and
Emma to provide reflections on agricultural life. Jess' reflection was
fascinating and damn thoughtful, reflecting mostly on things people may not know
about sustainable agriculture and the perils of not working within nature rather
than against her.
Emma then read a brief essay she wrote about the nature of gardening and the
reality versus the vision in early spring, the challenges and triumphs of such a
lifestyle. Ultimately her piece made me tear up quite a bit, but she had to bolt
right afterword to make it to Silas' OWL class kick-off meeting. Many people
came up to me afterword to tell me how wonderful her piece was.
Both talks were so damn different.
Beyond church, I also had a low key day hanging out with Asa and Jane. We played
a few rounds of Go before Jane got really upset at not understanding the rules.
We then played Trainmaker a few times. Asa really enjoyed himself, and actually
won both games with great rolls. But there was some strange reversion in his
ability to connect the train icons on the dice to the cards at some point. He
eventually figured it out again, but it was really interesting to watch.
