00:38 Notes

Realized today that when things get crunched at work, I lose sight of my other interests. I end up going through the motions of being a dad or coach or athelete or stoic, but my heart's not really in it. I need to do a better job of finding the passion for doing certain things, rather than allowing stress to take the enjoyment out of a thing.

Tomorrow I'd like to focus on making bread, hanging out with the family, getting some exercise and planning for my campaign for selectmen. No Ridecell, no church, no volunteering. Let's see how we do.

00:42 Retrospective

On Friday I did a good job of staying focused on work. It was, sadly, mostly driven by having someone that I needed to prove my work to. I was saved by the fact that there was tons of confusion all around. But that doesn't stop my embarassment from being unprepared.

My discipline was tested when handling a situation with Asa playing upstairs in an unsafe manner. I was downstairs working and Emma was upset because I was not paying attention to the boys upstairs. But she has fallen into a routine of trusting our 4 year old with our 1 and a half year old upstairs. While I can understand her concern, I refused to feel guilty for not helping her with the kids.

That said, I also did not do a very good job of being empathetic towards Emma as she was visbly, emotionally distraught over what had happened and I was trying to stay focused.

In the future, I could improve by recognizing when a situation merits leaving what I'm doing to help Emma, even if the immediate need is not my own responsiblity.

23:33 Better

Did a better job of staying with it today. Had a great time on a short but fast run, and then hiking with the kiddos. It's still hard helping Si through his PTSD around wasps and, as usual, Jane gets the short end of the stick. She was acting very dramatic around anything insect that flew and was freaking out Si. She's still 7, but it's exhausting watching her drive Si crazy.
