Journal

Cold and wet morning on the farm. I only got about 5 hours of sleep last night

due to Nabby being up around 12:30 and not wanting to settle. I think we fell

asleep off and on until about 3 a.m., but I remember being awake, but not that

much time passing. I've also been reading Dracula, finally. So I was able to do

some good reading last night.

I had a nice call with Andrii this morning to talk over where we're going with

permissions. I am constantly impressed with his ability to not over think

things, and come up with simple solutions to large problems. I do think we'll

have to do some refactoring around permissions, but he's been able to implement

a fairly big ask pretty easily, and it's always fun to watch.

I do get a little frustrated from time to time with the lack of big projects,

but the reality of big projects is they are almost never successful. Better to

do small things quickly than large things slowly. I think this is actually one

of the bigger issues with Emma's outlook on things like cleaning the house, or

maintenance. She says she likes to do things right or not at all. That

invariably means not doing things at all because to do things right take a huge

amount of time. Then she gets worried cause things aren't happening. But it's

because of her tendency towards making projects huge rather that small and quick.

In Daily Stoic, the passage today referenced an innate attraction to virtue and

self-mastery. That sounds an awful lot like best-self, and I couldn't help but

love these lines:

#+BEGIN_QUOTE

You were born with an attraction to virtue and self-mastery. If you’ve gotten

far from that, it’s not out of some inborn corruption but from a nurturing of

the wrong things and the wrong ideas.

#+END_QUOTE

It really does seem like focusing on the wrong things is what breeds discontent

in life. When your priorities and goals align with what you find virtuous and

good, good things happen.
