* Description
 create_customer() lowercases the stored username/email (email =
 kwargs["email"].lower()), but SignupView.perform_create authenticates using the
 raw submitted email (serializer.validated_data["email"]). If auth is
 case-sensitive or normalization differs, auth/login can fail post-create,
 preventing Datadog metrics.

** Acceptance criteria

Authentication uses normalized email consistent with stored username.

Add test coverage for mixed-case signup email ensuring auth/login succeeds and
metric emits.

Notes: This is a likely silent source of “DB created, metric missing” when users
type uppercase letters.
